Is it possible to think of new bases for the welfare state in the era of platformization of work?

Ursula Huws, an important contemporary sociologist of work, surprises us in this book with her updated analysis of the problems faced by the welfare state in the 21st century and of the recent social, economic and political issues involving work on digital platforms. The author sets out to make a diagnosis, but also risks making pragmatic proposals for public policies. Although the author demonstrates, as is common among European sociologists, a certain nostalgia for the “golden years of capitalism”, she clarifies that what she intends is a return to the principles that inspired welfare in the 20th century. It is especially in this aspect that her work can encourage discussions about a social welfare project aligned with contemporary issues and demands.
